In Nov. 2021 after ten years of our evolving mission and impact, we changed our name to Gathering Ground. You may still find reference to our old name Creative New Jersey in posts created prior to Nov. 2021.

What Does Freedom Look Like?

Freedom may look different to each individual person but I believe there are a few fundamentals that we can all agree on; freedom to make our own choices, freedom to speak our truth, and freedom to be who we want to be, how we want to show up.

In a world that is changing rapidly, I think it’s important to contemplate what freedom truly means to us and how we live it out each day. Our minds are powerful, our environments have a direct effect on our physical and mental well being, every one of our choices has a ripple effect that directly shapes our outcomes.

During a month where we celebrate independence, I find myself contemplating, how am I choosing to live freely? When I lash out at someone without pause, I surrender my freedom to  anger. When I  choose to judge others and not find compassion in my heart,  I live in comparison. Each time I make the choice to live in separation, I am taking away MY OWN power, my own freedom. I am making a decision to live in the bondage of self and division.

Today, I choose freedom. I choose freedom to view the world through a lens of love. I freely choose to make decisions not based on fear alone. I choose to find compassion for all beings on this earth no matter what our differences. I choose to recognize our shared humanity. If we can all attempt to be a bit more mindful each day, to be kind to each other and ourselves, then we will always be living in a place of personal freedom.

Our internal condition is what we choose it to be.

Love and Light,
